Sleep and Fertility: Is Your Man Getting Enough Sleep?

By January 14, 2014December 26th, 2019No Comments

Let the man sleep if you are trying to conceive a baby! At least that is what a recent study, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology is telling us. There is an association between sleep disturbances and decreased sperm count. So give your man a nap!

Danish researchers found that men in the study who reported the most sleep disturbances had a 29% lower concentration of sperm in their semen, as well as a higher likelihood of having “fewer morphologically normal spermatozoa,” compared with men who had lower scores on a sleep disturbance questionnaire.

The researchers used semen and blood samples, as well as asking 953 men to fill out a sleep disturbance questionnaire.

So if you are looking to boost your sperm count, not only do you need to watch your weight, heat exposure (hot tubs and lap tops), and tobacco – you better skip those late night movies and get to bed!
